IMPORTANT UPDATE | PEPPERMINT GROVE BEACH CLOSURE
The whale carcass that washed ashore yesterday was removed from Peppermint Grove Beach earlier today by the Shire.
The Shire wishes to thank both Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia (DBCA) for their support and consultation with the Shire and the contractors that assisted with the prompt removal.
Based on consultation with state authorities Peppermint Grove Beach will remain CLOSED, at this stage, for a period of one-week or until further on-site testing and additional patrols for predator activity can be completed, with a view to public safety.
The Shire will confirm the exact reopen date as soon as feasible and based on best practice.
There are still on-site remnants associated with the whale carcass and increased large predator activity has been reported in the area.
The Shire wishes to reiterate that we are STRONGLY URGING community to NOT swim in the area. We also ask that you keep pets off the beach and abide by all signage and Shire instruction on-site.
The Shire recommends community download the SharkSmart App to remain up to date with tagged animal notifications and public sightings in the area.
Any public sightings can be reported to the Water Police on 9442 8600.
