The Shire of Capel has released the results of its 2024 Community Perception Survey, with feedback from over 820 residents revealing a strong sense of local pride and alignment with the Shire’s future vision. The results show growing satisfaction in many key areas, as well as clear guidance from the community on where future efforts should be focused.
The survey, conducted by independent consultants Culture Counts, was made available in both digital and paper formats, ensuring a broad cross-section of the community was heard. Results are being used to inform the upcoming review of the Shire’s 10-Year Strategic Community Plan.
“On behalf of Council, I want to sincerely thank every resident who took the time to share their views,” said Shire President Doug Kitchen. “Your feedback directly shapes how we deliver services, plan future projects, and advocate on behalf of our community.”
Key findings at a glance:
Residents gave high satisfaction scores in:
- Library Services
- Parks and Playgrounds
- Customer Service
- Access to Health and Community Services
At the same time, the survey also highlighted areas where the community would like to see more progress:
- Revitalisation of Town Centres
- Improved Road and Verge Maintenance
- Better Value for Rates
- Accessible Beach and Nature Areas
- Community Safety and Environment
President Kitchen added:
“It’s encouraging to see improvement in many areas, and we’re committed to maintaining and building on that momentum. Importantly, we’ve also heard where we need to do better. We’re focused on reviewing what the community has told us, improving communication, and keeping you informed on what’s next.”
These priorities will directly inform budget planning and project delivery across the Shire’s localities, ensuring community voices are central to decision-making.
