Community Art - Peppermint Grove Beach

The Shire of Capel is excited to show the progress of community artists at work. Local community members Janine and Anne approach the Shire to put a splash of colour on the Peppermint Grove Beach water tank next to the fire station and community centre of which we completely supported.

Both Anne and Janine commented that 'most of our artwork is based on native flora and fauna in the area. The Community Centre murals consist of local water birds and animals. The only anomaly is the Hayfield side of the building - and this mural is dedicated to the historical location of the Community Centre. When owned as farmland the location was a hay field. There is a photograph hanging in the Community Centre of horses and hay cart standing in the vicinity of the Community Centre. This is where the inspiration for this particular mural came from'.

As for the Fire Fighter's tank this art is based on native flora, essentially what firefighters aim to protect as well as considering that there was already painted fauna on the Community Centre, so Anne and Janine were inspired to paint native plant species.

Even though the work on the water tank is not yet complete, it certainly looks amazing, and the Shire is grateful to the talented local artists who had this vision, as well as the Peppermint Beach Ratepayers Association that provided the paint to make this suggestion a reality.
