Cheaper Home Batteries Scheme Changes

Published on Sunday, 15 March 2026 at 6:00:00 PM

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is now available to help more people install batteries, so Australian households, businesses and community organisations can get a discount of around 30% on the upfront cost of installing a range of small-scale battery systems (5 kWh to 100 kWh).

The discount will reduce every 6 months starting from 1 May 2026 through to 2030 according to the STC (small-scale technology certificates) factor, reviewed annually.

To efficiently size a solar/ battery system that suits you and your household certain easy to obtain information is needed. Use this website to match your electricity use with a solar/ battery system, using information found on your Synergy account.

You need to know about your daily electricity use, power output of your solar and the output capacity of your inverter to understand what size battery might be appropriate for your house.

When discussing your electricity storage requirements with your accredited installer and/or solar battery retailer, knowledge of your usage, requirements and limitations are important.

You can also check if the battery quoted by an installer is accredited by the Clean Energy Council here ➡ https://cleanenergycouncil.org.au/industry-programs/products-program/batteries
