The Shire of Capel is thrilled with a $1.9 million grant from Lotterywest for the Dalyellup Multipurpose Community and Youth Centre (DMCYC).
The completed DMCYC will bring our Shire services and community together, promoting connection and strengthening our local and South West communities, with numerous benefits including:
- Cutting-edge Digital and Creative Hub – computers, recording studio, digital art, coding, gaming and robotics.
- Performance and rehearsal spaces.
- Innovative library and learning centre where communities gather, explore, discover, connect and collaborate.
- Outdoor meeting and event space.
- Flexible, chill out youth zones.
- Visitor and tourism information and servicing.
- Satellite Shire of Capel Customer Services.
- Hot office/desk facilities for hosting mental health and family services.
- A foundation anchor that connects the Dalyellup Town Square, recently opened Skate Park, future Pump Track and Nature Play public open space.
With the finalisation of funding hopefully in the near future, the fully construction ready project can get underway.
Shire President Doug Kitchen said the key elements of the multifaceted project were borne out of a community engagement process, with the design and function of the facility responding to the strongly voiced future needs of the community.
“In 2021 we engaged with stakeholders and the wider community about what they would like to see in their community. This confirmed to us the real need for a purpose-built facility for our youth that would also incorporate a larger, permanent home for our library, digital hub to learn the skills of tomorrow and function / meeting rooms for our community to connect and share. The design is inclusive, flexible, connected to the landscape and unique.
During our consultations and workshops, we found there was a real desire for a digital space, so we are excited about this part of the facility. It will allow our youth opportunities for skill development, leading to higher level education and potential employment opportunities. The interest in this space already expressed by some of our local and regional education providers is great to see.” he said.

“I am really pleased Lotterywest has elected to support the Dalyellup Multipurpose Community and Youth Centre which is an innovative project that will create a first for our region, an accessible, public technology hub for young people.”, Mr Punch said.
“This youth tech hub will give students and young people interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and careers the opportunity to explore the creative and recreational side of cutting-edge technology without the expense of buying the necessary equipment.
“The funding of this project is an excellent example of how Lotterywest is working with communities to help build a better WA.

The Objectives out lined in this media release are aligned to Direction 1 in the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan: Strengthen and enhance the wellbeing of our community, as well as Direction 5: Provide and maintain suitable infrastructure and facilities.
