Fact or Faction 2021 – Memory of culture in STEAM

South West Women’s Health and Information Centre and the Shire of Capel present an evening of stories highlighting the power of science, technology, culture and art.
With life recounts behind the human drive to find the WWII ship the Sydney contrasted with the parallel memoir of the author’s journey with her husband’s dementia.
The night will also include the power of food science to accentuate the memory of culture will be presented by a chemical engineer who will tell some of her amazing stories and share her love of food and culture.
Glenys McDonald was a part of the team that found the ship, the HMAS Sydney found off Shark Bay where all were lost during WWII. Taking us on a journey of her life experiences caring for her husband with Dementia which she wrote into a memoir, Glenys highlights how these two very different life experiences have deep connections through the world of science and technology.
Chemical engineer, olive oil manufacturer and cooking demonstrator will give a talk on chemistry and her life (her country of origin India). Tanuja will demonstrate the preparation and serve chickpea curry on the night.
Rebecca Dyson Tichbon
Rebecca (Beck) Dyson Tichbon’s first career was as a Medical Scientist and then she fell into a health and science teaching career in higher education. Beck now runs a successful wellness business in Bunbury, Western Australia. As well as her science degree, she has qualifications in education and facilitation, life coaching, aromatherapy and belly dance, and is an Amazon best-selling author. She also volunteers her time through her membership of Soroptimist International and is currently the President of the Bunbury club as well as being on the committee at South West Women’s Health and Information Centre. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, arts and crafts and doing ‘Just Dance’ with her son on his gaming console. Beck is passionate about women’s wellbeing and finds fulfilment in supporting others on their own wellness journey through her all of her work, drawing on her eclectic collection of knowledge and skills.
