COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Community development involves working with individuals and groups from within and outside our community to develop opportunities, skills, capacity and knowledge to assist communities to be vibrant, cohesive and self sustaining.

The Community Development staff are unique in their ability to discover new and interesting community projects or offering support across a broad range of areas such as:

  • Youth
  • Recreation and Leisure
  • Heritage
  • Tourism
  • Safety and Crime Prevention
  • Arts and Culture
  • Volunteer Management and Development
  • Seniors
  • Fostering club and individual skills

The Community Development team is also responsible for:

  • Quarterly Council Newsletter
  • Annual Council Minor and Major Grants Programme
  • InZone School Holiday Program
  • In the Loop Newsletters (aimed at keeping community groups informed)
  • In the Zone Newsletters (aimed at keeping young people up to date)
  • Winter and Summer Sports Ground Allocation
  • Neighbourhood Watch
  • Community Awards and Special Events

The Team are currently working on the implementation of recommendations from the following Council plans:

  • Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan
  • Heritage Interpretation Plan
  • Sport and Recreation Strategic Plan
  • Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

The team is led by Michelle and consists of Sue, Donna & Lesley who are all dynamic and passionate about community. They welcome participation and feedback from all residents, and can be contacted by phoning 97270222 or by emailing info@capel.wa.gov.au.
