Bush Fires happen every summer, they can start suddenly and without warning.

Typically Western Australia's (WA) bush fire season in the south west starts in November and continues through to April.  As climate and seasonal conditions change, bush fires in WA are becoming more common and the risks are increasing.

The devastating impact a bush fire has on a community has a lasting affect and can take years to recover from.

Bush Fire Survival Checklist

It is possible that in spite of your best efforts to clean up around your house to reduce the risk of fire, circumstances may arise where you need to evacuate your home.

Have you considered what you will need and what you should have ready?

The Checklist – Preparing Your Survival Kit, prepared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, gives a quick snapshot of the things you should consider.

Remember that planning in advance of an emergency is very important as the stress of any emergency incident could cloud your judgement on the day.

Total Fire Ban Information Line

Fesa has launched a new information line to answer any questions about Total Fire Bans (TFBs).

Members of the public can call the information line on 1800 709 355.

This number is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

During a TFB it is prohibited to light any fires in the open air, or to perform any activity that may start a fire.

Local Governments are encouraged to direct TFB enquiries to this number, or to the information available on FESA's website www.fesa.wa.gov.au
