Located on the banks of the Preston River, Boyanup is your quintessential dairy and cattle town with lots of tree changers thrown in for good measure.
Its farmers market held every fourth Sunday of the month is one of the best in the region.
Many locals are history buffs with an interest in trains, and the driving force behind the South-West Rail and Heritage Centre. Run by volunteers, the Centre has Western Australia’s largest collection of rolling stock and memorabilia. It is also home to the iconic 124 year old steam locomotive, Leschenault Lady.
There is a small display of farming machinery and other items, plus working blacksmiths. For all those MTB addicts – Boyanup is also an awesome stop on the Munda Biddi Mountain Bike Trail.
Boyanup is a Noongar name, said to mean "a place of quartz" as "Boya" means "rock" or "stone".
